about

For orders in Europe, please purchase at koshkilrecords.bandcamp.com/album/northwest-wind-solo-sax-kr-3
We also encourage people seeking to acquire only the digital version of the album to purchase from Koshkil Records as well, as Koshkil is run by his family and closest friends.

Marcelo Peralta passed away on March 10, 2020 from complications due to COVID-19. Physical versions of his albums are rather rare in North America, and this posthumous “Northwest Wind” release marks the first vinyl pressing of his work. Unknown Tapes are extremely grateful to Koshkil Records and Marcelo Peralta’s family for this collaboration, their spirit, and generosity.

"This music has been with me for more than 30 years in a search for personal expression. It is like a navigator's log that is brought to life through new experiences and is constantly changing. On this album I have taken a risk to merge archaic songs of Northwestern Argentina with techniques of contemporary improvisation and free jazz, while trying to respect the depth of the original musical expression." -- MARCELO PERALTA

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, MARCELO PERALTA (1961-2020) started out studying piano, while also taking saxophone lessons with J.C. Bozzo and harmony and composition lessons with Sebastián Piana, Ophelia Carbajal and Jorge Pitari and graduated with a background in music education. He was also self-taught on trombone, trumpet, tuba, clarinet and various folk instruments. At the beginning of his professional career, he worked as a teacher at the Municipal Conservatory “J.M. de Falla" in Jazz and Improvisation
department. In 1985 he formed the "Grupo de improvisación Tercer Mundo" (the first free jazz group in Argentina) with which he released his first album "Un hilo de luz" (1987/Melopea). Later, he toured Argentina as saxophonist of the "Cuarteto de Litto Nebbia" and recorded with them on the album “Buscando en el bolsillo del alma" (Melopea). He later joined the sax quartet "Cuatro Vientos”, appeared as a saxophone soloist in the "Orquesta Sinfónica de L.R.A. Radio Nacional”, and recorded in a duo with pianist Eduardo
Lagos. In 1990, he finished his second album "Escaleras de la Comprensión" (Melopea) and formed "Los Saxópatas Big Band”. He directed the group performed with them, and self-produced their first album. His career blossomed internationally with solo performances and concerts with the "Marcelo Peralta Quartet" in Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, and more. His third CD "Milonga" (Melopea-New Media) was released in 1997. Peralta recently established Koshkil Records and released the debut album "Tercer Mundo 30 años" CD0010 (2020)
